The leader of the coalition "For the Future of Montenegro" Zdravko Krivokapić announced victory in the parliamentary elections in the country. On the air of national television, he thanked fellow citizens for their support and declared the fall of the regime of the incumbent President Milo Đukanović.
According to exit polls, the pro-presidential Democratic Party of Socialists of Montenegro gains 34.4%, the opposition coalition "For the Future of Montenegro" – 33.4%, and the opposition coalition "Peace is Our Nation" – 12.5%. Thus, if the opposition unites, it will gain about 46%.
Milo Đukanović's political force is the author of the anti-church law, which provoked long-term protests of believers in the country.
Earlier, the hierarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Amfilohije Radović of Montenegro and the Littoral, called on all citizens of Montenegro to go to the parliamentary elections on August 30 and vote "in defense of God's shrines". He stated that the future of the Church in the country depends on the results of the upcoming parliamentary elections.
