On September 2, 2020, Gojko Perovic, rector of the Cetinje Seminary, spoke about the attitude of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro to the policy of the new government.
“One can say that we are all pleasantly surprised by the outcome of the elections in Montenegro, because this is something that has happened for the first time in the history of Montenegro: a peaceful change of government in the elections,” the website nova.rs reports. “On the other hand, the vast majority of people believed in the possibility of change. These are those continuous columns of people at litanies. I suppose that now the new government will take reforms and systemic steps, however, the Church will not participate in the implementation of the executive policy."
The priest added that the country is in great need of a new law on religion. During its preparation, it is necessary to listen to the opinions and accept the proposals of all Churches and religious communities of Montenegro.
As reported by the UOJ, Patriarch Irinej said he was pleased with the changes in Montenegro.
