Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church received the head of the Vatican's "peacemaking delegation" Cardinal Matteo Zuppi at the Danilov Monastery on 29 June 2023, reports the Izvestia Telegram channel.

"I am very glad that you have come to Moscow accompanied by brothers whom I know well," the ROC Patriarch greeted the Cardinal and said that the ROC appreciated the decision of Pope Francis to send specifically Zuppi to Moscow.

As reported, earlier Cardinal Matteo Zuppi was received in Kyiv by Volodymyr Zelenskyy. As Zelenskyy wrote, the sides "discussed the situation in Ukraine and humanitarian cooperation as part of the implementation of the Ukrainian peace formula". The President said, "Only joining efforts, diplomatic isolation and pressure on Russia can influence the aggressor and bring a just peace to the Ukrainian land.”
