On February 4, 2021, Ambassador of Ukraine to Israel Yevgen Korniychuk met with Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem in the premises of the Patriarchate of the Jerusalem Orthodox Church, according to the official website of the Embassy of Ukraine in Israel.
At the meeting, the Ambassador of Ukraine and the Patriarch of Jerusalem discussed prospects for cooperation in studying the history of relations between Ukraine and the Patriarchate of Jerusalem, as well as exchanged views on the situation in World Orthodoxy and in Ukraine, in particular, around the OCU.
Patriarch Theophilos III and the Ambassador of Ukraine agreed to organize an exhibition of religious relics handed over to the Patriarchate at the end of the 17th century by Hetman Ivan Mazepa, which are kept in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. As part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's Independence, it is also planned to hold an exposition of relics donated by representatives of Ukraine to the Jerusalem Patriarchate at different times.
As previously reported by the UOJ, the Ambassador of Ukraine has already tried to discuss with the Patriarch of Jerusalem the issue of "development of the OCU."
