Former Metropolitan of the UOC Alexander (Drabinko) announced the need to elect the Kyiv Patriarch in communion with the Roman Catholic Church and the Patriarchate of Constantinople.
Drabinko spoke about this in his report "Ecumenical Concept of the UGCC – Orthodox Reflection", published by him on Facebook.
According to the ex-metropolitan of the UOC, the "ecclesiological" idea of the "local Kyiv Church" divided into different jurisdictions "looks quite attractive".
In his opinion, this idea "appeals to the attempts of Metropolitan Peter Mohyla "to reunite Rus’ with Rus’" and returns to the plans of Konstanty Ostrogski to elect the Kyiv Patriarch who would be in communion with both Rome and Constantinople and thereby unite East and West".
Drabinko stressed that "in the absence of national unity and the decline of missionary work, the very intentions to strive for reconciliation and rapprochement already mean a lot", since "such discussions are needed, among other things, to draw the attention of Orthodox Christians to the problem and return it to the range of topics discussed".
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that Sviatoslav Shevchuk said: for the UGCC to successfully build a "patriarchate", it needs to be raised to a new level, and it will reach out to the Orthodox brothers for unity.
