Wildfire Engulfs St. Nicholas Monastery in Patras

PATRAS, Greece — The Holy Monastery of St. Nicholas in Bala has been heavily damaged by a massive wildfire sweeping across multiple fronts in the Achaia region, according to pelop.gr. Photos show part of the women’s monastery roof destroyed as crews work to contain the flames.
The nuns were evacuated earlier, and rescue teams are assisting residents and domestic animals in the wider area. Firefighters, nuns, and volunteers remain on site, fighting to save the monastery and nearby homes. Authorities urge residents to stay alert and comply with evacuation orders where issued.
