BUCHAREST — Patr. Daniel of the Romanian Orthodox Church has called for shared responsibility in promoting mutual respect and interreligious dialogue, addressing a working meeting between representatives of Romania’s recognized religious denominations and government experts focused on combating antisemitism and other forms of prejudice.
In a message issued Friday, the Patriarch welcomed the initiative as timely and necessary, citing national law that recognizes religious communities as partners in education, social service, culture, and the promotion of social peace. He stressed that cooperation among religious denominations, grounded in mutual understanding and respect, is an essential tool in countering intolerance and fostering dialogue.
Patr. Daniel reaffirmed the Romanian Orthodox Church’s rejection of antisemitic and xenophobic actions or rhetoric in public life, emphasizing its commitment to peace, social harmony, and peaceful coexistence. He noted that hatred contradicts the Gospel and Christian moral values, and he expressed hope that the meeting would lead to lasting initiatives supporting human dignity, harmony, and social cohesion in Romanian society.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Patr. Daniel taught that the Theotokos calls us to support large families.
