UOC Hierodeacon's Whereabouts Remain Unknown After Detention
A Pochaiv Lavra hierodeacon was reportedly detained by military recruitment officers, with his whereabouts still unknown.
POCHAIV, UKRAINE — Territorial Recruitment Center (TRC) officers reportedly detained Hierodeacon Eulogiy, a monk of the Holy Dormition Pochaiv Lavra, on May 5, 2026, according to the Telegram channel KozakTV. The incident is described as taking place while he was working in a field near the monastery’s skete.
According to the report, officers took the hierodeacon to an unknown location, and his whereabouts have not been confirmed since the detention. The monastic community has stated that it has received no information regarding his condition or location at the time of publication.
The report also references a broader pattern of similar incidents involving clergy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), noting that cases of forced detention by TRC officers have become more frequent in 2025–2026, despite monastics being generally exempt from conscription under Ukrainian law.
Previously, the UOJ reported that family said a Kyiv priest was missing after a TRC detention.
