CHICAGO — Abp. Daniel of Chicago and the Midwest issued a pastoral appeal urging prayer, repentance, and reconciliation amid civil unrest in Minneapolis and broader tensions across the United States.

In his message to the faithful, the Archbishop said that fear, anger, and suspicion harm not only public life but also the inner spiritual life of individuals. He called on clergy and laity alike to resist allowing turmoil to harden hearts or diminish love for one another.

Abp. Daniel emphasized that the Church’s primary response to unrest is prayer rather than argument. He asked every parish, household, and believer to dedicate time to earnest prayer for those who are frightened, angry, or feel unheard, as well as for civic leaders to be guided by wisdom and restraint.

He further prayed for the healing of enmity, describing hostility as a spiritual illness healed only by God’s grace, and offered a liturgical prayer for peace to be used in homes and parishes.

Previously, the UOJ reported that Abp. Daniel visited the McHenry parish for Feast of St. Nicholas.
