Catholicos of All Armenians urges countries to stop Azerbaijan's aggression

His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians called on the international community and Armenia's friendly countries to take measures to stop Azerbaijan's aggressive actions against the republic, reports armenpress.am.

"We are following with pain and concern the provocative military actions unleashed by Azerbaijan at night along Armenia's border, as a result of which peaceful settlements were shelled, there are victims and wounded," the Catholicos said.

He urged Armenian citizens to unite and cease the strife so that the disunity and polarisation of society would not lead the country to new defeats, and all peace-loving forces – to stop Azerbaijan's military aggression.

"From the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, we call upon the international community and especially our friendly countries to take effective steps to put an end to yet another Azerbaijani aggression," the Catholicos said in his message. He stressed that "real and dignified peace cannot be achieved by threats and coercion. Such peace will not be beneficial and long-lasting.”

The Head of the Armenian Apostolic Church asked the heads of the sister Churches to pray for the security of "the first Christian state, its believing people and contribute to establishing real peace in the region”.

Fighting broke out between Armenian and Azerbaijani armed forces on the night of September 13, resulting in fatalities and injuries.

As reported, the Azerbaijani military desecrated an Armenian church in Nagorno-Karabakh.
