Hierarch retains presumption of innocence amid ongoing review by Ecumenical Patriarchate.

CYPRUS — Archbishop Georgios of Cyprus announced that a final decision on the appeal of Metropolitan Tychikos of Paphos is expected by August, pending review by the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Speaking in a June 18 interview with RIK TV, the Archbishop confirmed that the appeal materials have been submitted and will be examined during the Patriarchate of Constantinople’s July session.

Archbishop Georgios underscored that until the decision is issued, Metropolitan Tychikos maintains the presumption of innocence.

The Metropolitan was deposed by the Synod of the Church of Cyprus on May 22 over alleged disciplinary and administrative violations. He has challenged the ruling, citing procedural flaws, including the absence of an investigative commission and denial of the right to review evidence or defend himself.

Supporters view his appeal as a legitimate defense of his ecclesiastical rights and reputation, while Tychikos maintains his innocence and loyalty to the Church.

Previously, UOJ reported that Metropolitan Tychikos of Paphos had contested his removal, citing lack of due process and a breach of the Church’s Charter.
