Ludwell Fellowship Announces September Conference in Virginia

Orthodox scholars and faithful to gather in celebration of Orthodoxy, Southern identity, and the enduring legacy of Phillip Ludwell III.
STAFFORD, VA — The Philip Ludwell III Orthodox Fellowship will host its third annual Fellowship Conference on Saturday, September 6, 2025, in the historic town of Stafford, Virginia. The all-day event will be held at Aquia Church, one of the region’s oldest surviving colonial churches, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
The theme of this year’s gathering is “The Cradle and the Crucible: Ludwell’s Virginia Through War and Revolution, & the Future of Orthodoxy in the South & in America.” It reflects on Virginia’s foundational role in shaping American and Southern identity while exploring how Orthodoxy can take root in this cultural soil.
The conference is being hosted by St. Herman of Alaska Orthodox Church with the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Jonah (Paffhausen), who will be among the featured speakers. Met. Jonah, rector of St. Herman’s and abbot of St. Demetrios Monastery, is also a former primate of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA), and now a retired bishop of ROCOR.
Other speakers include:
- Dr. Donald Livingston, noted philosopher and co-founder of the Fellowship.
- Jay Dyer, author, commentator, and host of Jay’s Analysis.
- Fr. Paul Siewers, professor and Orthodox chaplain at Bucknell University.
- Rebecca Dillingham, journalist and co-founder of the Fellowship, known for her “Dissident Mama” podcast and blog.
Vespers will be served Saturday evening, and participants are strongly encouraged to attend Divine Liturgy on Sunday morning at St. Herman of Alaska Church in Stafford.

In the meantime, organizers urge the faithful to mark their calendars and pray for the success of the event, which aims to strengthen Orthodox identity in the American South and explore how the legacy of figures like Colonel Phillip Ludwell III, the first known Orthodox convert in America, can inspire the Church’s mission today.
