OCA Holy Synod Convenes for Fall 2025 Session
The Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church in America held its Fall 2025 session November 11–14, addressing strategic planning, finances, ministry challenges, and preparations for the 2027 All-American Council under the leadership of Met. Tikhon.
WASHINGTON, DC — The Holy Synod of Bishops of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) gathered at the Chancery here for its regular Fall Session, November 11–14, 2025, under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Met. Tikhon.
The four-day meeting focused on pastoral, administrative, and strategic matters facing the Church. Key agenda items included the ongoing implementation of the OCA’s Strategic Plan, updates on diocesan life and clerical assignments, financial reports for 2025–2026, and continued response to challenges in parish ministry amid changing cultural conditions.
The Synod reviewed reports from its officers and committees, including the Office of the Treasurer, the Pension Board, and the Sexual Misconduct Policy Advisory Committee. Discussions also addressed missionary growth, youth and young-adult ministry, and support for seminaries.
A significant portion of the session was dedicated to preparations for the 21st All-American Council scheduled for 2027 in Atlanta, GA. The bishops approved initial budgetary frameworks and thematic directions for the gathering.
In closed sessions, the Synod considered several personal matters concerning clergy and addressed canonical petitions. All decisions were reached in a spirit of collegiality and prayerful discernment.
The Fall 2025 session concluded with the celebration of the Divine Liturgy on Thursday morning, followed by a communal meal. The next regular meeting of the Holy Synod is scheduled for Spring 2026.
