Holy Cross Monastic Brotherhood Moves into New Church
Holy Cross Monastery has opened its new church, celebrated the first Divine Liturgy, and continues work on key liturgical features while inviting the faithful to visit and pray.
WAYNE, WV — The Brotherhood of Holy Cross Monastery joyfully announced that, by God’s grace, they have moved into their newly constructed church and celebrated the first Divine Liturgy on Sunday, the Feast of the Holy Forefathers of Christ. In a video statement, Abbot Gabriel said, “It was a very auspicious day liturgically.”
The monastery credited Schema Archimandrite Panteleimon for his decades of dedicated prayer, labor, and spiritual guidance in making the new church a reality. “We thank him from the bottom of our hearts,” Abbot Gabriel said, asking the faithful to continue praying for him.
While a temporary iconostasis has been installed, plans for a permanent iconostasis, iconography, altar, and proskomedia table are underway. Construction on sacristy countertops, the loft stairwell, and cupolas is progressing, with generous benefactors sponsoring portions of the latter liturgical furnishings.
Abbot Gabriel and the brotherhood invite the faithful to visit and pray, saying, “We invite all of you, as you're able, to come make a pilgrimage and to pray together with us in person in this beautiful new church.”
Previously, the UOJ reported on Abbot Gabriel's announcement that they were working on the new church and they will soon be working on a new dormitory for both aspiring and elderly monks.
