AHOS Launches American Branch of International Bioethics Chair
The Antiochian House of Studies has launched a U.S. unit of the International Chair in Bioethics, formally joining a global academic network and expanding its teaching and research in the field.
LA VERNE, CA — The Antiochian House of Studies (AHOS) has formally launched a United States unit of the International Chair in Bioethics, marking a significant expansion of its academic and research mission. The new unit integrates AHOS into an international network dedicated to bioethical scholarship and strengthens its capacity to address contemporary ethical issues from an Orthodox Christian perspective.
The establishment followed collaboration between Professor Evangelos D. Protopapadakis of the University of Athens and Professor Rui Nunes, President of the International Chair in Bioethics, in coordination with AHOS Academic Dean Archimandrite Professor Fadi Rabbat and AHOS bioethics scholar Dr. Ioannis Ladas. Final approval was granted by AHOS President Great Economos Fr. Michel Najim.
As part of the initiative, AHOS appointed an internal steering committee composed of Metropolitan Hierotheos Vlachos, Archimandrite Fadi Rabbat, and Fr. Michel Najim, along with an external steering committee of leading bioethics scholars from Greece. The new unit is expected to support teaching, research, and international collaboration in bioethics.
Previously, the UOJ reported that the 3rd International Bioethics Conference of the Ecumenical Patriarchate made public statements regarding euthanasia.
