Nativity Miracle: Orthodox Mission Brings Hope to Las Lomas
An Orthodox mission in Las Lomas, Nicaragua, turned the Nativity season into a living miracle, providing gifts, food, and hope to hundreds of children and families.
LAS LOMAS, NICARAGUA — On December 27, 2025, under the blessing of Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America & New York, a small Orthodox mission in Las Lomas, Matagalpa, Nicaragua, brought a real-life miracle to the local community. The Mission of St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco organized a day of spiritual and material support for hundreds, combining prayer, charity, and celebration.
The event began with a pilgrimage and moleben, invoking God’s presence, followed by children’s games, laughter, and gift-giving. Initially intended for 100 children, divine providence expanded the outreach to 170 children and 300 community members, providing sweets, food, and essential supplies.
Inspired by St. John’s care for orphans in Shanghai and guided by the words of Fr. Daniel Sysoev, volunteers sought to reveal God through love and service. The mission expressed gratitude to benefactors whose generosity enabled this transformative work.
As night fell, the event stood as a testament: in Las Lomas, the Nativity became a living miracle, proving that Orthodox faith can turn charity into hope.
