Bishop says he has placed himself at the Synod’s disposal as reports suggest a pre-decided move toward long-term or lifelong suspension.

PAPHOS — Metropolitan Tychikos has arrived in Paphos after returning to Cyprus to participate in an upcoming session of the Holy Synod, scheduled for January 8, despite not having received a formal invitation from Abp. Georgios, who presides over the Synod.

As reported by UOJ-Greece, he traveled to Cyprus immediately upon learning that the Synod would convene. In a letter sent upon his arrival, Metropolitan Tychikos informed the Archbishop of his presence on the island and stated that he stands ready to cooperate fully with the Synod’s work.

At the same time, reports indicate that a decision regarding Metropolitan Tychikos may have already been finalized before the Synod meets, with sources claiming that a long-term — or even lifelong — suspension is being prepared.

In his letter, the Metropolitan also referenced ongoing health issues, noting that he is undergoing medical examinations and follow-up tests, the dates of which have not yet been determined.

The full text of the letter states:

“Your Beatitude,

Bless.

I have been informed that on January 8 a Synod will be convened to which I have not been invited by you, as President of our Holy Synod.

I arrived in Cyprus today for this purpose, as soon as I learned of it.

Matters concerning my health and the related examinations are progressing. I also still have additional series of tests, as well as follow-up examinations, which I will undergo, although I do not yet know the dates.

With respect,

Tychikos of Paphos”

Previously, UOJ reported that Metropolitan Tychikos is preparing to appeal to the civil courts.
