Blessing of the Waters Marks Theophany at Greece’s Largest Port
Greece celebrated Theophany in Piraeus with Abp. Ieronymos blessing the waters and President Tasoulas calling for peace, renewal, and unity.
PIRAEUS, GREECE — Greece’s largest port, Piraeus, hosted a grand celebration of the Feast of Theophany on January 6, 2026, with the Sanctification of the Waters presided over by Abp. Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece. The ceremony was attended by President Konstantinos Tasoulas and other political leaders, highlighting the national significance of the feast.
Earlier, Met. Seraphim of Piraeus led a festive Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral Church of the Holy Trinity, which concluded with the Blessing of the Waters at the pier opposite the Church of St. Spyridon. Crowds gathered to witness the ritual, a central tradition of Theophany marking the baptism of Christ in the Jordan River.
In remarks following the ceremony, President Tasoulas highlighted the feast as a source of “light and truth” to guide citizens, while Abp. Ieronymos emphasized peace, prosperity, and harmony as central themes. Both leaders called for reflection and renewal in the new year, framing the celebration as both a spiritual and communal event.
