Archpriest Christopher Stade, Founder of Chrysostom Press, Falls Asleep in the Lord
Fr. Christopher Stade, longtime Missouri pastor and founder of Chrysostom Press, reposed in the Lord, remembered for his humility and lasting contributions to Orthodox scholarship.
HOUSE SPRINGS, MO — Archpriest Christopher Stade, longtime rector of St. John Chrysostom Orthodox Church in House Springs and a priest of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, reposed in the Lord on January 9. Recently retired due to health reasons, Fr. Christopher served the parish for more than two decades, first as assistant priest from 1990 to 1992 and then as rector from 1992 until 2016, a period marked by significant parish growth.
Beyond his pastoral ministry, Fr. Christopher was widely known as the founder of Chrysostom Press, which translated and published influential English-language editions of the Gospel and Epistle commentaries of Blessed Theophylact of Ohrid, as well as The Great Collection of the Lives of the Saints by St. Dimitry of Rostov.
His funeral and a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy were celebrated on January 12 at the parish by Archbishop Gabriel, who remembered him as a humble and devoted shepherd.
