Romanian Church to Proclaim Canonisation of 16 Holy Women
The Romanian Orthodox Church will formally proclaim the canonisation of 16 holy women during major liturgical celebrations in Bucharest.
BUCHAREST, ROMANIA — The Romanian Orthodox Church has announced the official schedule for the general proclamation of the canonisation of 16 Romanian holy women, to be held at the Patriarchal Cathedral of Sts. Constantine and Helen in early February. The women to be canonized include martyrs, monastics, rulers’ wives, mothers of saints, and confessors of the faith.
Commemorative events will begin on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., with the final memorial service following Vespers at the Patriarchal Cathedral. The service will honor the spiritual legacy of the women whose sanctity is being formally recognized by the Church.
On Friday, February 6, a procession of holy relics will take place early in the morning, followed by the Divine Liturgy celebrated by Patr. Daniel together with the Holy Synod. Near the conclusion of the liturgy, the solemn ceremony proclaiming the canonization of the 16 holy women will be officially conducted, marking a significant moment in the life of the Romanian Orthodox Church.
