Clergy and faithful gathered in St. Augustine to honor St. Photios with worship, remembrance, and renewed support for the National Shrine.

ST. AUGUSTINE, FL — The annual Feast Day observance of St. Photios the Great was held February 5–7 at the St. Photios Greek Orthodox National Shrine, drawing clergy, faithful, and dignitaries from across the country. Metr. Alexios of Atlanta presided over the weekend’s liturgical and commemorative events honoring the 9th-century Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople.

The celebration opened with Great Vespers and the Blessing of the Five Loaves at the St. Photios Chapel, followed by sacred music offered by Cantorae St. Augustine and students of Hellenic College Holy Cross School of Theology. Numerous clergy assisted throughout the services, while Bp. Dimitrios of Xanthos and several Archons were among those in attendance.

Meetings and commemorations included the St. Photios Foundation annual gathering, memorials for benefactors, and the National Shrine Day banquet, where major donations were announced in support of the Shrine’s mission and future preservation.

Previously, the UOJ reported that Patristic Nectar published the first English translation of St. Photios' Amphilochia
