Panagia Chapel to Receive Dome Cross at Alexios Retreat Center
A decade-old vision will be realized as a marble cross is raised above the Panagia Chapel at the Alexios Retreat Center in South Carolina.
SALEM, SC — A significant milestone in the development of the Alexios Retreat Center will be marked on Friday, May 22 as Metr. Sevastianos of Atlanta blesses the elevation and installation of a cross atop the dome of the Panagia Chapel.
The ceremony, scheduled for 2 p.m. at the retreat center in Salem will bring together clergy, members of the retreat center's board, staff, and faithful from across the region. Organizers described the occasion as the culmination of a vision that has been years in the making for the Holy Metropolis of Atlanta and the Alexios Retreat Center.
The white marble cross being installed was acquired more than a decade ago through the efforts of the late Metr. Alexios. According to retreat center officials, the cross has been carefully preserved while plans for the chapel progressed. Organizers emphasized that the installation represents more than the completion of a construction phase. They described it as a public witness to the Christian faith and a lasting symbol of Christ's presence that will overlook the retreat center for generations. Following the blessing and installation, attendees will gather for photographs and refreshments.
The ceremony coincides with the retreat center's Festival of Faith weekend, adding a special dimension to the annual gathering and offering participants an opportunity to witness a landmark moment in the life of the ministry.
