Holy Cross Monastery's New Church Receives Crosses and Cupolas
After years of setbacks, gleaming crosses now rise above Holy Cross Monastery’s new church.
WAYNE, WV — Golden cupolas and crosses were installed atop the domes of Holy Cross Monastery’s new church on Friday, March 20, during the Fourth Week of Great Lent and the period of the Veneration of the Holy Cross. The installation marks a significant milestone in the monastery’s long-awaited construction efforts. Members of the UOJ-America team were there for the occasion, filming a documentary on monastic life at Holy Cross when the crosses were being installed.
The cupolas, which arrived from overseas in July 2025 after repeated delays, had previously been blessed by Bp. Luke of Syracuse during an episcopal visit the following month, coinciding with the feast of the monastery’s patron, the Holy Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon. Their elevation now crowns years of perseverance by the monastic community.
The timing of the installation held special spiritual meaning, taking place as the Precious Cross is returned to the altar after its veneration in the center of the church. The newly raised crosses now stand as a lasting witness above the monastery, reflecting both devotion and endurance.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Holy Cross Monastery reported progress on the new church and announced major building plans.
