Mt. Athos has been re-imagined in Minecraft as a growing digital Orthodox landscape blending heritage and creativity.

STOCKHOLM — The OrthoCraft server has digitally reconstructed Mt. Athos within the sandbox game Minecraft, creating a virtual environment inspired by Orthodox monastic architecture. The project features a detailed recreation of the Athonite peninsula, including several recognizable monasteries and structures modeled after real-world sites.

According to the OrthoCraft creator, the latest update includes “a detailed reconstruction of Mount Athos.” The developer explained that the virtual landscape blends historically inspired architecture with original additions made by members of the community.

The server administrator said the goal is to preserve and engage Orthodox heritage through an interactive platform, noting that the Mt. Athos region of the game is designed to reflect the rhythm and structure of monastic life while still allowing creative interpretation. OrthoCraft has continued expanding with new builds and ongoing refinements and now includes more than 2,600 players interested in Orthodox history and culture. Minecraft, developed by Mojang, is widely recognized as one of the best-selling video games of all time and remains a major platform for creative digital construction.

Previously, the UOJ reported that Holy Cross launched a global digital platform for Orthodox teaching.
