Evangelical Church Interviews Orthodox Priest on Liturgy
An Orthodox priest explained to Evangelicals how the Incarnation shapes the Church’s sacramental and sensory worship.
KERNERSVILLE, NC — An Evangelical congregation in Greensboro recently featured Archpriest Christopher Foley, a graduate of St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary, in a video interview exploring Orthodox worship and theology. Fr. Christopher appears in the video at approximately the five-minute mark.
Produced by Center City Church as part of a series on liturgy and beauty, the video titled “Perspectives on Liturgy & Orthodoxy” asked Fr. Christopher what he would want Protestants to understand about the Orthodox Church.
“St. Paul says, if you read it in the Greek, [Christ] is the ‘icon’ of the invisible God, the image of the invisible God,” Fr. Christopher said. “So the fact that Christ really took on flesh means that matter matters.” He explained that this conviction undergirds Orthodox sacramental and liturgical life, which engages all the senses in worship.
Archpriest Foley has served since 2006 as rector of Holy Cross Orthodox Church in North Carolina and was elevated to the rank of archpriest in 2021.
