Athens to Host Symposium Honoring Elder Aimilianos
An international symposium in Athens will honor the spiritual legacy of Elder Aimilianos of Simonopetra.
ATHENS, GREECE — The Holy Great Monastery of Vatopaidi and the Holy Monastery of Simonopetra will host an International Theological Symposium on May 8–10, 2026, dedicated to the memory of Elder Aimilianos of Simonopetra. Titled “Memory and Honor of Elder Aimilianos of Simonopetra: Martyr of the Glory of God and Guide in the Spirit,” the gathering will open at the Christmas Theater in Galatsi, with subsequent sessions at the Wyndham Grand Hotel in Athens.
The symposium aims to examine Elder Aimilianos’ spiritual, pastoral, and theological legacy, highlighting his contribution to Orthodox monasticism and contemporary ecclesial life. Opening addresses will be delivered by Elder Ephraim of Vatopaidi and Elder Eliseos of Simonopetra.
Hierarchs, abbots, abbesses, clergy, and university professors from Greece, Europe, and the United States are scheduled to present papers exploring the Elder’s enduring impact on Orthodox spirituality and theological thought. Admission to the symposium is free.
