Metr. Tikhon Begins Great Lent at St. Nicholas Cathedral
Metr. Tikhon led the faithful at St. Nicholas Cathedral into Great Lent 2026 with Forgiveness Vespers and the Great Canon of St. Andrew.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — His Beatitude Metr. Tikhon inaugurated Great Lent 2026 with solemn services at St. Nicholas Cathedral on February 22 and 23, guiding the faithful into the season of fasting, prayer, and spiritual reflection.
On Sunday, Metr. Tikhon presided over Forgiveness Vespers, marking the beginning of the Lenten journey and concluding with the Rite of Mutual Forgiveness. The following day, he celebrated Great Compline for the reading of the Great Canon of St. Andrew.
Joining His Beatitude were Archpriest Alessandro Margheritino, Chancellor of the Orthodox Church in America, and Priest David Bozeman, Secretary of the Orthodox Church in America, along with other clergy of the cathedral, who assisted in the liturgical services. The observances drew parishioners seeking to prepare their hearts and minds for the spiritual discipline of Great Lent.
