Patr. Theophilos Reads at Sparsely Attended Holy Week Service
Patr. Theophilos quietly read at the kliros during a sparsely attended Holy Wednesday service interrupted by sirens.
JERUSALEM — According to UOJ reporters on site, Matins of Holy Wednesday was held at the Patriarchal Church of Sts. Constantine and Helen, drawing only a small number of faithful amid ongoing regional tensions.
According to the Telegram post, just six pilgrims were present for the service, which took place at the site of the Patriarchal Reception Office. Despite the limited attendance, the solemn worship service proceeded prayerfully, reflecting the subdued atmosphere in the Holy City in the shadow of regional conflict.
During the service, Patr. Theophilos III participated in a notably humble manner, standing at the kliros and reading the Six Psalms alongside the choir, rather than presiding in a more formal capacity.
An air-raid siren sounded during the service, though no airstrikes followed, underscoring the fragile security situation even as worship continued uninterrupted.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Patr. Theophilos called on diplomats to defend Christians in the Holy Land.
