Clergy gathered in Jordanville unite in prayer, reflection, and brotherly fellowship at the start of Lent.

JORDANVILLE, NY — Clergy of the Eastern American Diocese (ROCOR) gathered on March 17 at Holy Trinity Monastery for the opening of the Northern Great Lenten Clergy Retreat. Despite frigid weather, the reunion was marked by warm fellowship as hierarchs, priests, and deacons greeted one another, many reconnecting after long absences.

The retreat began with veneration of the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God, followed by opening remarks from Metr. Nicholas. Clergy sang “Memory Eternal” for several departed figures, including Metr. Laurus, Abp. Vitaly, and others who served the Russian Church Abroad.

Reports were delivered on publishing efforts and seminary life, while Peter Karakozoff presented a keynote address on mystical prayer from a ROCOR perspective. Discussions continued informally after lunch, allowing clergy to reflect on pastoral concerns and ministry challenges.

The day concluded with Vespers and Great Compline in the monastery cathedral, where clergy prepared spiritually for the Presanctified Liturgy through confession.

Previously, the UOJ reported that the primates of the OCA and ROCOR concelebrated the Sunday of the Cross.
