YONKERS, NY — Today, St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary commemorates the life and legacy of Protopresbyter Thomas Hopko (March 28, 1939–March 18, 2015), the beloved former dean, priest, theologian, and gifted speaker. Remembered for his profound contributions to Orthodox theology and seminary life, Fr. Thomas continues to inspire clergy, students, and the faithful.

This week, members of the Seminary community, led by Archpriest Alexander Rentel and Dean Dr. Ionuț-Alexandru Tudorie, will conduct memorial prayers at the graves of Fr. Thomas and Matushka Anne at the Orthodox Monastery of the Holy Transfiguration in Ellwood City, PA. These prayers honor their enduring influence and devotion to the Church.

The Seminary also shared archival footage highlighting Fr. Thomas discussing the iconographic program of the Three Hierarchs Chapel, reflecting his deep knowledge of Orthodox art and liturgy. Students and alumni alike remember his teaching, preaching, and pastoral care with gratitude.
