St. Tikhon's Monastery Press enters a new era as the monastery brotherhood takes the lead on Orthodox liturgical publications.

WAYMART, PA — St. Tikhon’s Monastery Press has weathered a challenging winter, but new publications and operational changes mark a “coming dawn” for the press. In a recent update, Fr. Mikel Hill, managing editor, described how issues with paper, files, and printing delayed several anticipated titles, but recent releases have brought encouragement to readers and staff alike.

A major highlight has been the second edition of "Service Book for the Faithful," which nearly sold out on pre-orders and has received five-star reviews, prompting a second printing. Advance copies of additional titles are expected to arrive by Pascha, including "Small Book of Needs," "The Great Book of Needs: Volume One," "The Complete Little Library of Orthodox Christian Hymns," "Festal Menaion: Analogion Edition," and "The Holy Psalter: Pocket Edition," featuring illustrations inspired by Anglo-Saxon manuscripts.

Longer-term projects are also progressing, including the Horologion, Apostol, Holy Gospel, Services of Holy Week, and "Common Book of Church Hymns: Sunday Matins." Hill announced that the monastery brotherhood, now nearly twenty members strong, will gradually assume leadership roles in editing and publishing, with outside scholars moving into supportive positions.

“The brotherhood has always played an important role in praying through the liturgical texts before their publication, serving as an essential spiritual, liturgical, and musical laboratory,” Fr. Mikel said. “However, the brotherhood will now be assuming those roles previously filled by priests and scholars outside the monastic community.”

Previously, the UOJ reported that St. Tikhon’s Monastery offered an Eight Tones crash course for church musicians.
