Orthodox MP Helen Nakimuli Reposes at Age 40
Ugandan MP Helen Nakimuli has died after surgery, leaving a legacy of faith, public service, and community advocacy.
KALANGALA TOWN, UGANDA — An Orthodox Member of Parliament and daughter of an Orthodox priest, Hon. Helen Nakimuli, has died unexpectedly following an unsuccessful surgery, the Orthodox Church Mission in Uganda announced Sunday. She was 40 years old and had recently been re-elected to represent Kalangala District.
She was elected in 2021 as a member of the National Unity Platform and was known for advocating community programs supporting widows, elderly residents, and vulnerable families, as well as improved funding for remote districts in the island district of Lake Victoria.
Speaker Anita Among said the news had shocked Parliament, adding that prayers were being offered for her family. She was also known as a volleyball athlete and received an ecclesiastical medal in 2021 from Patr. Theodoros II of Alexandria for service to the Church and community. She is remembered for humility and public service in Kalangala District.
Previously, the UOJ reported that over 100 people were received into the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa.
