Farewell Banquet for Abp. Apostolos Set for Sept. 8 in New Jersey

GARFIELD, NJ — Abp. Elpidophoros of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and the Metropolis of New Jersey Council will host a farewell banquet for Abp. Apostolos of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada on Sept. 8 at The Venetian in Garfield, as he prepares to leave New Jersey for his new assignment in Canada.

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. at 546 River Drive. Tickets cost $195 and are available through the Metropolis of New Jersey’s Givebutter page. The banquet will take place 11 days before Apostolos’ scheduled enthronement as Archbishop of Canada on Sept. 19 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Toronto.

Apostolos was unanimously elected Archbishop of Canada by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate on July 22, following Abp. Sotirios’ resignation from active service. Apostolos had led the Metropolis of New Jersey’s pastoral and liturgical life since February 2021 and became Metropolitan of New Jersey in July 2023.

During his tenure, he oversaw Greek Orthodox communities in New Jersey, Greater Philadelphia, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. His enthronement in Toronto is scheduled to begin on September 19 at 11 a.m.
