Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) Convenes Spring 2025 Session

The Holy Synod of Bishops of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) met March 17–20, 2025, for its Regular Spring Session under the presidency of His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon. The session opened with a Moleben and proceeded with a full agenda addressing Church life, administration, and external affairs.

Discussions included relocation planning for the Archdiocese of Washington, updates from stavropegial institutions, and ongoing diocesan matters. A notable highlight was the Canonization Commission’s report on the glorification process of Matushka Olga, a development closely watched by many faithful.

In the area of external relations, the Synod reviewed recent visits to Constantinople, Bulgaria, and Serbia, reflected on the repose of Archbishop Anastasios of Albania, and considered developments involving the Macedonian Orthodox Church and pan-Orthodox cooperation.

Reports from Acting Chancellor Archpriest Alessandro Margheritino detailed chancery operations, international activities, and preparations for the 21st All-American Council. Planning for the 22nd Council also began.

On Wednesday evening, the bishops celebrated the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts at St. Nicholas Cathedral in Washington, DC.

The session concluded with updates from departments, seminaries, legal counsel, and dioceses, highlighting the Synod’s ongoing commitment to both the administrative and pastoral dimensions of Church life.

The inclusion of Matushka Olga's canonization process and attention to Orthodox unity abroad reflect a Church looking both inward and outward with clarity and care. May the efforts of Metropolitan Tikhon and the OCA be blessed through her intercessions.
