Abp. Nikitas presented King Charles with an icon of Christ during Westminster Abbey service celebrating global Christian witness in Advent.

LONDON — Westminster Abbey hosted a special service on December 10th to celebrate Christian witness during Advent, bringing together clergy, diplomats, and representatives of global Christian communities. His Eminence Abp. Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain participated in the gathering, which honoured those who remain steadfast in their faith amid peace, hardship, or persecution.

Abp. Nikitas led one of the prayers of intercession, offering petitions for Christian unity and for all who suffer for the Gospel. The Reverend Archdeacon Dr. George Tsourous proclaimed the Gospel reading from Luke 1:26–38 in the original Greek, highlighting the Church’s ancient liturgical heritage.

As part of the Archdiocese’s contribution, two icons were displayed in the Abbey, including an icon of Christ that was placed in the Nave. Following the service, Abp. Nikitas presented the icon to King Charles as a gift “to watch over him and protect him,” a gesture His Majesty warmly received.
