Metr. Tikhon Reflects on the Annunciation and the New Creation
Metr. Tikhon celebrated the Annunciation as the moment the Theotokos reshaped the world through her “let it be.”
SPRINGFIELD, VA — In a reflection on the Great Feast of the Annunciation, Metr. Tikhon of the OCA highlighted the profound role of the Theotokos in the salvation of humanity. Drawing parallels between God’s creation of the world and the "fiat" of the Virgin Mary, he emphasized that her “let it be” inaugurated the recreation of the human race through Christ.
Metr. Tikhon cited St. Gregory Palamas, who extolled the Theotokos as the one who “made the human race divine” and transformed earth into heaven. She is described as a “newly-established world higher than the world” and a “mysterious paradise” from which the New Adam emerges, reflecting her unique place in God’s plan for humanity.
Concluding his meditation, Metr. Tikhon invoked the Theotokos as the Mother of the new creation, offering a prayer of protection and intercession for all the faithful.
