A first-ever Pan-Orthodox retreat in Pittsburgh united the faithful in prayer, reflection, and Lenten renewal.

PITTSBURGH, PA — With the blessing of Bp. Irinej, the inaugural Pan-Orthodox Great Lenten Retreat was held on March 21, 2026, at Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Cathedral. More than sixty faithful from eight parishes gathered for the event, centered on the theme “Awake, O My Soul: Great Lent in an Age of Distraction.”

The day opened with prayer and a memorial service for Patr. Ilia II, setting a solemn tone. A series of lectures followed, featuring Rodney Torbic, Stefan Djoric, and Mother Christophora, who addressed spiritual vigilance, prayer, and overcoming distraction during Great Lent.

Participants engaged in discussion sessions that deepened reflection on repentance and daily spiritual life. The retreat also fostered fellowship, with shared Lenten meals hosted by the cathedral community.

The gathering concluded with Holy Confession and Great Vespers, offering a prayerful close and underscoring the communal journey toward Pascha.

Previously, the UOJ reported that the Serbian Midwest Diocese shared photos from a winter youth retreat.
