JERUSALEM — A memorial service was held at the Church of the Resurrection in Jerusalem to commemorate the soul of Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, following his recent repose at the age of 93. The service was organized by the Patriarchate of Jerusalem in honor of the long-serving Georgian primate.

According to an official statement, a Trisagion prayer was offered on Golgotha for the repose of the Patriarch’s soul. The service was led by Abp. Isidore of Hierapolis, who honored Ilia II as a spiritual elder and faithful guardian of the Church.

Patr. Ilia II, who led the Georgian Orthodox Church for decades, will be laid to rest at Sioni Cathedral on Sunday, March 22. In response to his passing, authorities in Georgia have declared a six-day period of national mourning, reflecting his profound influence on both Church and nation.

Previously, the UOJ reported that the Ecumenical Patriarch presided over Patriarch Ilia II’s funeral in Tbilisi.
