Bp. Saba of the Georgian Orthodox Church in North America honors Patr. Ilia II with a heartfelt funeral tribute at Tbilisi’s Holy Trinity Cathedral.

TBILISI, GEORGIA — Bp. Saba of North America paid a solemn funeral tribute to the late Patr. Ilia II at the Holy Trinity Cathedral on Friday. The service honored the longtime spiritual leadership of the Georgian Patriarch, who guided the Church through decades of change.

Bp. Saba led prayers and hymns in memory of Patr. Ilia II, who contributed greatly to Orthodox unity and pastoral care across Georgia. The ceremony was attended by clergy, faithful, and representatives of the wider Orthodox community, reflecting the high esteem in which the Patriarch was held.

The Holy Trinity Cathedral, a central spiritual landmark in Tbilisi, served as the setting for the tribute.

Previously, the UOJ reported that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio offered condolences on the passing of Patr. Ilia II.
