The archbishop and Deputy PM Hatzidakis reaffirmed their partnership to strengthen cultural, educational, and community ties between Greece and the Greek diaspora.

NEW YORK — Abp. Elpidophoros welcomed Greece’s Deputy PM Kostis Hatzidakis to the American archdiocese headquarters on December 7, 2025, for a warm and wide-ranging discussion focused on strengthening ties between Greece and the Greek diaspora.

The archbishop highlighted the deep devotion of Greek Americans—especially youth—to their ancestral homeland, pointing to the success of folk dance and choral ministries that connect thousands of young people to Greek language and culture. He stressed the urgent need to expand Greek American schools to preserve heritage for future generations.

Hatzidakis offered full support to the archdiocese, while Elpidophoros reaffirmed the Church’s ongoing commitment to assisting Greece financially and spiritually.

During the visit, Elpidophoros presented gifts to Hatzidakis and his family, including an icon and a cross for their son. Hatzidakis is in the U.S. for official meetings and to attend REBRAIN Greece New York, a program linking diaspora Greeks with new career opportunities in Greece.
