KHOTIN, Ukraine — The Dormition Church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in the village of Khotin, Sumy district, sustained serious damage on June 2, 2025, following a Russian airstrike, according to Orthodox Sumy.

Three guided aerial bombs reportedly struck the village center. While no civilian casualties have been confirmed, local infrastructure suffered extensive destruction. The Dormition Church, regarded as the spiritual heart of the community and built roughly 20 years ago, was hit hardest.

The blast severely damaged the church’s walls, shattered its windows, and destroyed large portions of its roof and domes. The interior, including icons, the altar, and other liturgical elements, was also affected. A nearby baptistery was completely demolished.

The Sumy Diocese has called for prayers for peace, protection of local residents, and the restoration of the church.

Previously, UOJ reported that two churches of the Sumy Eparchy of the UOC suffered damage due to Russian shelling.
