The Liturgical Arts Academy Announces 2025 Schedule

TLAA offers intensive courses on chant, iconography, and worship-oriented cooking. Events take place at the Diakonia Retreat Center in Salem, SC.
JUNE 21, 2025 — The Liturgical Arts Academy (TLAA) has announced its upcoming schedule of intensive, week-long training programs in Chant, Iconography, and Foods in Faith.
Each year, TLAA offers two academies focused on sacred arts and one centered on liturgical cooking.
TLAA–Summer, designed for intermediate, advanced, and master-level students, will take place August 17–23, 2025, with applications opening March 20.
TLAA–Winter, tailored to beginners, will run February 8–13, 2026, with applications opening September 20, 2025.
The Foods in Faith Academy is held each February, with specific dates to be announced.
All events take place at the Diakonia Retreat Center in Salem, SC. According to the TLAA website:
The Diakonia Retreat Center is a destination secluded in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains featuring wooded glens and hiking trails and its own 12 acre private lake. The campus features canoeing, fishing, and more. Individual and duplex cabins, group lodges, and communal dining all await our group as we arrive at this beautiful camp. The “crown jewel” of the retreat center is the lovely Panagia Chapel. The Diakonia Retreat Center is owned and supported by the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Atlanta.
Each academy offers 5–6 hours of daily instruction, evening enrichment sessions, and regular worship services. Chant students actively participate in morning and evening services, putting theory into practice with guidance from expert instructors.
Admission is selective and based on an application process. TLAA’s immersive, in-person training provides a rich foundation for continued study in the sacred arts and is a vital resource for those seeking to deepen their engagement with liturgical tradition.
