Serbian, Romanian Hierarchs Concelebrate at Holy Life-Giving Cross Monastery in Canada

Met. Mitrofan celebrated the Divine Liturgy with Bsp. Ioan Casian near Toronto.
MONO, Ontario — On Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025, His Eminence Metropolitan Mitrofan of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Canada celebrated the Divine Liturgy together with His Grace Bishop Ioan Casian of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada at the Monastery of the Holy Life-Giving Cross.
The service was concelebrated by Hieromonk Polycarp, abbot of the monastery; Fr. Jovan Marjanac, secretary of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Canada; and clergy from the Georgian, Carpatho-Russian, and Romanian Churches. Following the Liturgy, the hierarchs performed a small consecration of the summer altar and inaugurated the new pavilion.
In his remarks, Bishop Ioan Casian welcomed Metropolitan Mitrofan, noting that Romanians take pride in seeing one of their former students among the hierarchs of the Serbian Orthodox Church. The monastery brethren presented Metropolitan Mitrofan with an icon of Saint Dumitru Staniloae – his former professor and recently canonized theologian.
Moved by the gesture, Metropolitan Mitrofan expressed heartfelt gratitude and reflected on his Romanian mentors and spiritual fathers, many of whom are now saints.
Founded in 2011, the Monastery of the Holy Life-Giving Cross is located about 50 kilometers north of Toronto in the village of Mono.
Previously, UOJ reported that His Beatitude Pat. Daniel of Romania had consecrated the reliquary which will house the relics of the recently canonized St. Dumitru Stăniloae..
