Polish Orthodox Primate Files Complaint Against OCU to Constantinople
Met. Sawa accuses Ukrainian "hierarchs" of violating canonical order in Poland.
WARSAW — The Primate of the Polish Orthodox Church, Met. Sawa, has filed a formal complaint to the Ecumenical Patriarchate regarding the activities of the schismatic Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) in Poland, according to documents from the OCU Synod held on Nov. 7, 2025. This was first reported by UOJ-Ukraine.
The OCU was informed of the complaint by the chief secretary of the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, Archimandrite Vosporiy. A letter was drafted in response to Met. Sawa and the Synod of the Polish Church, with the release from the OCU stating:
The text of the Synodal Letter addressed to His Beatitude Sawa, Metropolitan of Warsaw and All Poland, and the Council of Bishops of the PAOC was approved with an explanation of the actions of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, which are taking place in a state of extreme compulsion, which arose due to the anti-canonical and even anti-Christian attitude of the hierarchy of the PAOC towards the clergy and faithful of the OCU, who found themselves in Poland, fleeing from Russian armed aggression. The Ecumenical Patriarchate will also be informed about this letter.
UOJ-Ukraine has previously reported that OCU “hierarchs” had celebrated a “liturgy” in Warsaw, in violation of the terms of the Tomos. The OCU has also voiced displeasure over the "unfriendly attitude" of the Polish Church.
