Abp. Daniel Leads Nativity Services at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Chicago
Abp. Daniel of the OCA led the joyful Nativity services at Holy Trinity Cathedral, celebrating Christ’s birth as a light of hope amid a suffering world.
CHICAGO, IL — The great feast of the Nativity of the Lord was solemnly celebrated on December 25 at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Chicago, the diocesan cathedral of the Diocese of the Midwest. His Eminence Abp. Daniel of Chicago and the Midwest presided over the festal services, drawing clergy and faithful together for the Church’s central celebration of Christ’s birth.
The liturgical observances began on Wednesday, December 24, with the Reception of Converts followed by the Vesperal Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the Great. Later that evening, Great Compline and Festal Matins were served, preparing the faithful for the feast.
Serving alongside the archbishop were Cathedral Dean Priest Alexander Koranda, Archpriest Tarasiy Maxim, Dcn. Paul Garklavs, and Dcn. Timothy Heinbokel. The Cathedral Choir, under the direction of Rr. Vladimir Lymar, led the hymnody.
In his homily, Abp. Daniel reflected on the Nativity as a light shining amid a darkened world, urging prayers for those suffering and unable to celebrate the feast. The celebration concluded with carols and a festive meal shared by the community.
