ROCHESTER — Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Rochester, New York, will host a Byzantine Chant Workshop on February 7-8, 2026, bringing together clergy and chanters for continuing education in the psaltic tradition of the Orthodox Church. The workshop will be led by the Rev. Fr. Romanos Karanos, Ph.D., Director of the Byzantine Music Program at Hellenic College Holy Cross, and Georgios Theodoridis, Archon Mousikodidaskalos of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese and Director of the School of Byzantine Music.

As shared by the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Detroit, the workshop is organized with the support of the School of Byzantine Music, Annunciation Church Youth Director Fr. Maggos, and SBM Administrator Rick Hanson. The program is designed to deepen understanding and practical knowledge of Byzantine chant, and the schedule includes a morning presentation on the history and principles of psaltic art, followed by a practicum focused on learning and applying chant notation and hymns, including instruction on preparing and chanting Orthros. Vespers will conclude the first day, with both instructors chanting antiphonally.
