St. Tikhon’s to Host Workshop on Building Parish Singing Communities
The workshop seeks to equip parish leaders with practical tools to form joyful, skillful, and spiritually grounded singing communities.
WAYMART, PA — A weekend workshop titled “Building Singing Communities: Working with Children, Youth and New Singers” will be held October 23–25, 2026, at St. Tikhon’s Monastery Music Center, offering practical training in parish music education and choral leadership.
The program will be led by Anne Schoepp, who will guide participants through methods for developing parish singing programs that serve children, youth, and new adult singers. Organizers say the workshop is designed to help communities build “musical opportunities for all levels of singers to experience joy and spiritual growth,” emphasizing that Orthodox chant “is a healing force” uniting mind, body, and spirit.
Sessions will include training in pitch and rhythm accuracy, musical games for children, the Kodály method, moveable-do solfege, vocal technique, and rehearsal strategies aimed at building ensemble cohesion. The schedule spans three days, beginning Friday evening and concluding Sunday with a final Q&A session following Divine Liturgy. Registration closes October 13, with student discounts available.
Previously, the UOJ reported that a Byzantine Chant Workshop was to be held in New York in February.
