The OCA is offering online music courses and private conducting lessons with Dr. Peter Jermihov, providing singers and conductors personalized training in sight-singing, conducting, and liturgical music skills.
SPRINGFIELD, VA — The Orthodox Church in America (OCA) Department of Liturgical Music and Translations has opened registration for its popular online music courses, designed for church singers and conductors of all levels. The winter semester begins Monday, January 12, 2026, with courses in Sight Singing and Ear Training, Basic Conducting Technique, and private intermediate- and advanced-level conducting lessons with Dr. Peter Jermihov.
The Sight-Singing course runs 10 weeks for $450, while the 12-week Basic Conducting course costs $575. Individual lessons for more experienced conductors are offered in 8-lesson blocks at $600. All classes combine pre-recorded lessons with weekly live Zoom sessions for personalized instruction and feedback. Students are expected to dedicate 3–4 hours per week for practice and assignments.
Courses are led by Fr. Vladimir Morosan and a team of skilled instructors, with Dr. Jermihov providing private coaching. The programs emphasize practical liturgical skills, including interval recognition, score analysis, and conducting techniques, helping participants grow as musicians while enhancing their parish music ministries.
Previously, the UOJ reported that St. Tikhon's Monastery offered an Eight Tones crash course.
