Metr. Tikhon has designated January 25, 2026, as Sanctity of Life Sunday, calling Orthodox Christians to prayer and witness for the protection of human life in conjunction with the March for Life in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — His Beatitude Metr. Tikhon has designated Sunday, January 25, 2026, as Sanctity of Life Sunday for the Orthodox Church in America (OCA), coinciding with the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C., scheduled for Friday, January 23.

Orthodox Christians are invited to participate in the March for Life, with national coordination provided by Orthodox Christians for Life. Events will begin on January 23 with the Divine Liturgy at 8:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Cathedral in Washington, followed by a breakfast reception. Participants will then proceed to the National Mall, where Metr. Tikhon will lead a Service of Supplication for an End to Abortion at 12:30 p.m., prior to the start of the march, which concludes at the U.S. Supreme Court.

In his archpastoral message, Metr. Tikhon emphasized the Orthodox Christian understanding of the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death, rooted in the Incarnation of Christ. He called on the faithful to pray for both legal protections for life and a culture oriented toward the physical and spiritual well-being of all people.

Previously, the UOJ reported that a Northern Ireland woman faces court for praying outside an abortion clinic.
