Abp. Alexei Celebrates Nativity in Anchorage, Calls Faithful to “Make Room” for Christ
Abp. Alexei led Nativity services in Anchorage, urging the faithful to embrace Christ’s humble Incarnation and to “make room, be changed, and make peace” in daily life, even amid Alaska’s long winter.
ANCHORAGE, AK — On January 6 (December 24 on the Julian calendar), Abp. Alexei celebrated the Vigil of the Nativity of Christ with the faithful of St. Innocent Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Anchorage, Alaska. He was joined by clergy from across the diocese, including Archpriest Daniel Charles, Priest Thomas Rivas, and several concelebrating priests and deacons. Despite heavy snowfall overnight, a hierarchical Divine Liturgy was joyfully served the following morning, followed by festive celebrations in the cathedral nave.
In his Nativity homily, Abp. Alexei emphasized that Christ was born not for earthly glory, but to dwell among humanity, redeem the world, and invite all into abundant life. He noted that the Lord’s birth in humility reveals God’s love through self-giving and closeness to every human heart.
Addressing the challenges of Alaska’s long winter, the Archbishop offered three guiding exhortations for faithful living: “Make room. Be changed. Make peace.”
